July 9-15: Dan stays in Europe for his second stint as an instructor at the Jazzin July Workshop at the beautiful Kapellerput Conference Hotel in Heeze--near Eindhoven--in The Netherlands. This week-long jazz course features internationally-known jazz artists on each of the common jazz instruments: trumpet, trombone, sax and clarinet, bass, guitar/banjo, drums, and piano. The teaching staff includes the aforementioned Bernd Lhotzky as the piano instructor, and Frank Roberscheuten--who is the Workshops founder and producer--as one of the two clarinet and saxophone instructors. Frank leads the exciting quintet called the Swing Cats. Dan has been their guest for numerous tours. (The USA is represented at the Workshop by Dan and his longtime friend, Howard Alden, who returns to teach guitar and banjo).
The format consists of group instruction on the respective instruments, and evening jam sessions (which is always a party) where the students can try out ideas and concepts that theyve learned during the day. Last year was the first Jazzin July, and it was a huge success. This year promises to be even better. (Incidentally, Dan is on staff as the CORNET AND TRUMPET instructor! His friend, virtuoso Dutch trombonist Bert Bouren returns to instruct the trombonists.) More information can be found at: www.swingcats.nl (go to the Jazzin July page).

The band--under Sandkes leadership--also includes pianist Mark Shane, drummer Rob Garcia, bassist Nikki Parrott, guitarist/vocalist/raconteur Marty Grosz, and Scott Robinson; who owns and plays nearly every instrument ever invented.
