Ascona is on the Swiss-Italian border; a resort village right on Lake Maggiore, with a view of the Swiss Alps. It's a huge, fun festival in a truly beautiful setting.  Plan on flying into Zurich or Milan. (www.jazzascona.com)
 
JULY 2009

7-11: (TENTATIVE: BASILI JAZZ Festival in Basili, Italy. This picturesque town is in the south of Italy, near Matera. I have been invited to the festival, but details are not yet confirmed. 15-25: BED on Jazzdagen Tours Jazz Cruise from Basel to Amsterdam (c/o Alida Meijers; www.jazzdagen.com)  "Jazzdagen" manes "jazz days" in Dutch. Alida Meijers (MY-ers) and her husband Pieter live in Los Angeles, where Alida has her Jazzdagen offices. Alida produces several jazz cruises in exotic locales throughout the year. Her husband, Pieter, is a renowned art historian and appraiser. He also plays clarinet! Pieter leads the well-known High Sierra Jazz Band, and his own Pieter Miejers Quartet. In addition to BED, the cruise will feature Pieter's Quartet, and other noted jazz artists.  It should be a fun, scenic trip.

AUGUST 2009

1- 9 August: Nairn Jazz Festival (www.nairnjazz.com) This unique jazz festival takes place in the small town of Nairn, in the Scottish Highlands. Festival producers Ken and Roslin Ramage have made it clear that they want BED for their festival in 2009. However, we are still awaiting their confirmation. Stay tuned!

15-22 August: BED at the Hotel Schloss-Elmau, in the Bavarian Alps, Germany. BED will return to this beautiful five-star hotel, placed within the Bavarian Alps.  Accommodations, amenities, food and service are all impeccable. The performance venues within the hotel are ideal for BED's intimate, "Chamber-Jazz" style of BED. BED will play several concerts during this week, including a special Children's Matinee. NOVEMBER 2009

30 Nov-10 Dec: BED at Jazz Fest at Sea (c/o Allan Vache').  Renowned clarinetist Allan Vache' produces this fun, exciting nautical jazz event for Florida-based MSC Cruises. This time, we'll be aboard the MSC Poesia, cruising from Fort Lauderdale down to Barbados, with stops in Puerto Rico; St. Kitts; Barbados; Martinique; St. Maarten; and Nassau, before returning to Fort Lauderdale. Other performers include vocalist Banu Gibson & The New Orleans Hot Jazz.  Allan Vache' will lead an all-star octet--featuring vocalist Terry Blaine--in a special Centenntial Tribute to Benny Goodman.
