Besides Dan, the international line-up includes Americans Eddie Erickson; Duke Heitger; Dan Block; and former Count Basie drummer, Butch Miles. The Australian bassist Nicki Parrott will contribute her fine bass work and insouciant vocals, and Dan’s European friends Chris Hopkins (piano), and Engelbert Wrobel (reeds) round out what promises to be a swinging, exciting octet. The Breda Jazz Festival celebrates its 40th anniversary this year, and has invited Dan to return. (He’s been there many times since that first trip). Dan will be joined by his BED-partner Eddie Erickson. They will perform with many European friends in loose, exciting sets all over the downtown area of charming Breda. JULY 2010 July 5-11: Dan again returns as a guest instructor for Frank Roberscheuten’s Jazzin’ July Workshop. (Howard Alden, who will teach guitar and banjo, is the other American instructor) This exciting, week-long, jazz “master class” takes place at the Golden Tulip Hotel in Jagerhorst, the Netherlands. Adult amateur and pro students spend the afternoon with Mr. Roberscheuten’s international staff of instructors, and get to try out what they’ve learned in fun, hands-on “jam sessions” each night. By the end of the week, the students and staff all feel like family. It’s truly a great, one-of-a-kind jazz education event. SEPTEMBER 2010 Sept 3-6: BED will return to the annual Sweet and Hot Festival, at the Marriott Hotel at LAX in Los Angeles, CA. For details: www.sweethot.org Sept 16-20: Dan returns to upstate New York, for the 13th Annual Jazz at Chautauqua weekend, hosted by jazz fan (and jazz’s friend) Joe Boughton and his family. This unique event takes place at the historic Athenaeum Hotel. The accent is on traditional, classic jazz, but a wide variety of music is heard over the weekend.
